Chopped Salad al Tonno

Made his recipe today for lunch. It took be about ten minutes to make and that was with a 2 year old “helping” me. I made it with iceberg lettuce instead of romaine due to lack of ingredients. I loved this recipe especially because it had absolutely NO Carbs or dairy which are the worst things in a diet. Oh! And it has less than 250 calories. To cut down even further on calories I suggest using less dressing and less olives.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons-1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic, salt
  • Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups chopped hearts of romaine
  • 1/2 cup (about 1) tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup sliced pimiento-stuffed green olives
  • 1 6-ounce can of chunk light tuna, drained.

Directions: Whisk lemon juice, oil, garlic salt and pepper in a large bowl. Add romaine, tomatoes and olives; toss to coat. Add tuna and toss again.

I modified the original recipe so this one serves 2 people. Personally I just put the other half in a container and saved it for tomorrow.

Diet Favorites (7’s)

Favorite (and most effective IMO without needing gym gear) Workout Exercises:

  1. Lunges
    Perfect for the butt.
  2. Reverse Crunches
I was amazed how much these worked my abs.
  3. Wall Push-ups
I just do more than I would of regular pushups. They are easier and I get the same results.
  4. Chair Dips
    Toning up those arms!
  5. Vertical Leg Crunches
These work a lot like the reverse crunches, though I tend to do more.
  6. Bicycle Crunches
MY FAVORITE! These work so well. And when listening to Lose yourself by Eminem I get so into it I do more reps than intended.
  7. Arm Twists
So for lack of better words that is what I call these. Basically its bending to the side and extending your arm. I use a band to make it harder and you can feel a burn.

Favorite Healthy Foods

  1. Green or Black Tea
Its amazing how healthy that stuff is. And 0 calories! Plus energy!
  2. Egg Whites
Does this really need explaining? I just make sure to cook it in real butter and only as much as needed and its a nice breakfast.
  3. Organic Fish
I don’t trust the NON-Organic fish that are pinned up and fed soy and chicken feathers
  4. Celery-bannana Smoothies
I know it sounds gross but they are so nummy and healthy. Plus they have a lot of fiber!
  5. A tablespoon Almond-Butter
I hate peanut butter so I go with organic almond butter. It’s amazing when I am craving something and it’s a good source of protein.
  6. Popcorn
Lots of fiber and it keeps you full. But… HOME POPPED ONLY! The packaged kind has way too many calories and extra stuff. Plus, popping it the old fashion way just adds something to it :P
  7. Berries.
Berries that have a blue tint to them are preferred.

Favorite habits

  1.  Water. Water. Water. At least 8 cups a day. It helps curve hunger and it can satisfy some cravings.
  2. Eat Organic. Though it’s pricey organic foods don’t have some of the toxins that can come from the regular fruits and meats you buy. The meat is richer with more vitamins than an animal being fed grains that it was never meant to eat.
  3. Wash Fruits WELL. Even when I get organic fruits. Banana’s for example can have toxins on the skin that lead to weight gain.
  4. Smell some lemongrass. When I am stressed, I eat. When I eat, I gain weight and get more stressed. A few whiffs of this cheap extract lifts my nerves. Sometimes I even add it to my bath.
  5. Have a little healthy oil each day. Healthy as in Olive oil. Your liver wont get rid of old oils until new ones are provided.
  6. Don’t snack after 8. Your body needs 12 hours to detox. That means no food for 12 hours. Since I like to eat when I wake up that means no midnight munching.
  7. EAT BREAKFAST. This is my favorite habit and probably the best for my weight. A surprising amount of people wont believe me when I tell them that skipping breakfast will actually make you gain weight. It stalls your metabolism. My biggest meal is breakfast and lunch and dinner are the ones you can skip if you are in a rush. (Though I recommend not to. Starving yourself wont work like you want it to. Well… unless you want to gain more weight.)
